Bewley Confirmed for Two More Years

October 05, 2015

Orica-GreenEDGE today announced Kiwi pro cyclist Sam Bewley has re-signed with the team for the next two years. The news follows a stellar season for 28-year old Sam, who’s been part of the team since inception back in 2012.

It hasn’t exactly always been smooth sailing for the Kiwi, who in the past has been dogged by injuries. This year has however, seen Sam not only avoid injury but deliver results in spades, including first in the Stage 1 Giro d’Italia TTT, second in both the Tour de Romandie and Tour of Alberta TTT, and fourth in the New Zealand National Championships and Prologue of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour.

Sport Director Matt White confirmed that 2016 is shaping up to be a year of opportunity for Sam. “He has ridden a Giro d’Italia and a Vuelta a Espana with us now. He will be back with a Grand Tour again next year,” said White.

Sam intimated his work next year might take him beyond purely domestic duty.

“I work hard for the leaders at races and it’s a job I get a lot of satisfaction from and want to continue to do that well… I also feel like it’s time to take a few of my own chances. Everyone has their time in this team and it’s up to the rider to take those opportunities. I would like to do that also,” he said.

Congratulations to Sam. Following this week’s Abu Dhabi Tour we wish him some quality down-time and a top season in 2016.
