Robbie McEwen would know all about the craziness that happens when a Tour de France stage actually finishes.

In his words, "that's when the real hell starts".

He checks in during Stage 5 and talks us through the process that happens once riders cross the line. Those who've finished at the pointy end go straight to the podium. Then it's a matter of filing through the media zone, into doping control, over to additional press conferences and then on the bus and getting ready for massages before queuing for dinner.

Today we see Bling up on the podium as well as "most courageous rider" an acknowledgment of his incredible effort in stages four and five after the shocking spill from stage three. He's in considerable pain from bruised ribs - in his words he could hardly breathe the night following the crash and we see here just how gingerly he's moving. What a champion effort.
